Way Too Hot!

For those of you at last week’s Selected Shorts with Anna Sale, I think you’d agree that one of the highlights was Sam Underwood’s impassioned reading of David Sedaris’s Road Trips. The story had all the Sedaris hallmarks: it was very funny, poignant, and definitely not G-rated. In case you are wondering, Road Trips has an informal name around here that has been censored for the purposes of this blog…need I say more?

Stories like Road Trips are not approved for our Selected Shorts radio show. You’d be surprised how often this happens. Over the years, Selected Shorts has had to say no to some amazing stories that, due to language issues or content advisories, were too edgy to be played on air.

So what do we do with all of these amazing stories and performers eager to read them?

As part of this month’s Fuse Project, we are launching a brand new live show and podcast called Too Hot for Radio. The title says it all. We’ll take some of our favorite daring fiction and bring all the steam, gore, and uncensored scenes to you with a cast that will get into the joy of a racy read! Readers and performers include Michael Urie (Ugly Betty), Colby Minifie (Marvel’s Jessica Jones), Denis O’Hare (who is in basically everything), Valorie Curry (The Following), musical numbers by duo Stuckey and Murray, and Uptown Showdown regular Aparna Nancherla as host. Later in the spring, Too Hot for Radio will become a podcast in all its uncensored glory.

To give you a taste of what’s in store, check out this very NSFW Stuckey and Murray’s parody of a REM classic called “Every Cuss Word We Know.” Headphones highly recommended…

Come along on Monday, February 8 for the launch of a brand new series. Don’t bring the kids!
